Assistive TV Hearing Aids (ALD)

An assistive listening device (ALD) may benefit people with normal hearing or hearing loss who do not need a hearing aid. These devices assist individuals with difficulty hearing the television, stereo, or music. With an ALD, the sound can precede background noise rather than being amplified. Individuals eligible for a subsidy under the Australian Government Hearing Services Program can get an ALD in place of or in combination with a hearing aid. Some ALDs can replace hearing aids, and some can be used with them. Individuals with private health insurance coverage for extras can also receive rebates.
